I've never heard of them testing for gender that early with blood taken (I'm not saying it don't happen, just that I've not heard of it).
Like someone else said they take blood to check your health not normally for gender that early
Thanks everyone!! I feel better now knowing it's a very common test and is accurate. My son just turned 7 and I wasn't offered anything like this when I was pregnant with him. Very cool! Good luck to all of you.
Wow! That's cool for moms who want to find out!!
They DO and CAN tell the gender by blood work. It's a newer test they have had out for a little over a year. Not all Dr. Offices perform it. It's 99.99% accurate on gender and any kind of chromosomal abnormalities. They will and ways confirm at your later scans. I found out at 12 weeks and it was later confirmed at 19 weeks and my growth scan at 30. It's much better then getting the amino. They are able to pull the baby's DNA from the mothers blood.
I was told i was gonna have a boy at 11 weeks. And when i went in at 16 weeks 5 days it was confirmed :)
I had my blood work done at 12 weeks and they told me its a boy!!!! Now I'm 24 weeks and had my Ultrasound at 19weeks and its confirm!! The test looks at babys DNA and its 99%accurate.
I'm pretty sure they can't test for gender with your blood. Unless they amino or take babies blood, you don't find out gender until 20 week anatomy scan and only if baby cooperates. The bloodwork is for your RH, your health status, and is usually checked for markers of downs syndrome, trisomy and spina bifida from what I understand. I had two rounds of blood work about 6 weeks apart to check for all that stuff.
