bronchitis while pregnant

Please tell me I'm not alone in this hell... what have you ladies done to ease the suffering?
My sister is a pharmacist and told me to be very careful with the robitussin dm I got from the doctor. She said not to take it unless I felt I had to.

My doc would not prescribe antibiotics or recommend over the counter meds. Just a lot of fluids and saline spray.

I was told to take robitussin Dm when I had an upper respiratory infection by a doctor, but the pharmacist said not to take anything with an expectorant, so I went to a different doctor for a second opinion and was told to absolutely not take anything with an expectorant. Instead, I drank hot tea with aome lemon and honey and was prescribed an antibiotic.

If you really indeed have "bronchitis" the zpak will not work and shouldn't be taken. Antibiotics are used to fight/kill infections caused by bacteria, not viral I fiction such as cold, and flu, that lead to bronchitis. With that being said, you are not alone, I've been sick for four days now, started as a cold and now is bronchitis I'm sure. I took am doing tea, lemon, honey. .. I refuses The zpak for reasons I explained above, and don't see the point of OTC products like robotussin or Tylenol since they only relieve symptoms not make you better. Good thing is that our babies are getting antibodies much like the ones they get when you have a flu shot (which I did not) from us being sick with a virus. Hope you ladies feel better soon, I'm 34 weeks and can honestly say this has been the worst part of my pregnancy. Rest easy!

Man, I'm so bummed that I went to the ER for 6 hrs only to get robitussin DM! I've had bronchitis before and had the inhaler but I'm surprised I didn't get anything this time. I have a follow up appointment this week, hopefully if I'm not better, I'll get that zpak everyone is mentioning.
So far I'm just taking Tylenol for the aches and pain (and OMG the headache from the congestion! As if the pregnancy headaches weren't bad enough) and benadryl for the sore throat and runny nose.
I'm drinking ginseng tea with lemon and honey. It kind of helps? I'm hoping to eat some pho tonight to let the nose flood gates open!

I was diagnosed with laryngitis today and the doctor said cough syrup isn't safe for me to take while I'm preg. She suggested drinking lots of tea with honey and it has helped so much.

I was prescribed a zpak of antibiotics and and inhaler..i was amazed at how much it allows me to breathe better at night. Only downside is that it is a stimulant, so it took me a while to fall asleep after I used it. As far as helping the coughing...I used cough drops and hard candies to keep my throat from getting dry. I had a rough cough for at least a good month. I hope that yours doesnt last that long and you get to feeling better soon.  :)
