castro oil! pet peeve!! rant.

This bugs me beyond believe! I read so many posts about woman on here using Castro oil to induce labor and it seriously makes my jaw drop. Castro oil is used as a laxative. What it does is cause you to have loose bowel movements and or throw up! How it works is it irritates your bowels and the contractions caused to your bowel can spark contractions and or labor. (Your practically stressing out your body to the extent the poop cramps spark contractions) that's how it can cause labor! Now the **** off! The stress of those contractions can cause the baby to have a bowel movements in utero. NO! It doesn't reach the babies system causing a bowel movement. Now the kicker! If your baby has a bowel movement in utero you put your baby at risk for meconium aspiration! The reason that pisses me off if because meconium aspiration is beyond serious and it's.your child! My daughter had meconium aspiration are a bowel movement in utero (no cssto oil) she was taken away the moment she was born. I didn't get to hold her or even see her! She was rushed to neonatal intensive care where she was inhabited, tubes were put in her lungs to suction them out! She was drugged to help mellow her out and she almost died! She spent a good amount of time in there and now at 4 yrs old has massive scar tissue to her lungs and 10 severe lung infections. Why would anyone want to risk that? Because they are uncomfortable? And don't want to wait a week longer! Do your research! A baby comes when it is ready for a reason.. it's scary when you start taking chemicals to induce labor, your not a doctor! Unless your doc tells you it's ok, educate yourself! I Hate to be rude, but whether you have done it and it worked or not? Consider the risk

Your baby having a bowel movement can happen regardless and is more likely if you go over. But Castro oil seeds is used to aide in abortions in third world countries and also used to prevent pregnancy. Anything used to stress out your uterus and baby is just not a smart idea

I totally agree. There was a post a week ago about a girl that wanted to use castor oil and she was warmed by many people of the risks and danger to the baby and was still like we'll is worth a try was her response. So stupid. My daughter was 13 days past due and I wouldn't have tried that even that far over. What really gets me is the ones that are 36 weeks and wanting to do it. So stupid.

Some people just dont get it until it happens to them and it's unfortunate. Maybe sharing your story about your daughter will wake up some of these people. I'm sorry you had to go through that and I can't imagine women who understand the risks of doing something like that would go through with it anyway but that's just how i feel about it.
