coffee

Okay I may be being a tad overboard however, I did have a miscarriage prior to this pregnancy so I am trying to be extra cautious and do everything in my power "right". With that being said, I am almost 10 weeks pregnant and I went from drinking a cup of coffee a day to nothing at all but I am CRAVING a blueberry coffee. I know they say you can have 200 mg a day but like I said, I am being ridiculous and not wanting to risk it...but it sounds SO good!!! What do you guys think? Should I keep on going with no coffee or give it a shot and just have one glass today and today only??

I once read an article a lady wrote about people judging pregnant women. I remember her saying that with her pregnancy she did everything crazy cautious. No caffeine (coffee, tea, pop...), cutting way down on sugar, eating extremely healthy, and then she miscarried.  Well, with the second pregnancy she went ahead and gave into that regular iced tea. Since the article is mostly focused on the judging it goes on to talk about comments from other patrons at restaurants, but the point is that doctors recommend cutting your caffeine to certain levels. You don't have to cut out one daily cup of coffee if you know you won't be drinking any tea or pop or downing a box of chocolates. Obviously, you want to check with your doctor since there are risks with certain medical histories or complications, but the truth is that sometimes there just isn't anything that you can do when it comes to preventing a miscarriage. Good luck with everything & congratulations on your pregnancy!!

I was a coffee holic and always drank 5 or 6 cups a day til I got pregnant. Went cold turkey. Wasn't that hard because the smell started making me sick. Once I hit second trimester I started drinking a small cup (5 oz or half decaf and half regular) sometimes and now in third trimester I have one every day. Equal to about 100 mg. A small cup once probably won't hurt but if you can wait that certainly won't hurt either. I feel a little bad that I drink a cup a day but I do carefully monitor the caffiene level so if the doctors are right I should be safe.

Thanks guys!

I have tried decaf and something about it just does not do it for me. I feel like it is missing the bitterness or something lol

Hey,

I did really well with no coffee in my first trimester but then I caved and have been having 1-3 cups a week which still isn't bad. I would say go for it as coffee is my weakness.
