I plan to do delayed cord clamping... I spoke to my Midwife and she said it is all their practice does unless there are medical reasons that require baby to be whisked away.
Hi ladies, I want to start by saying I really don't know anything about the subject, but I think we have to consider the fact that immediate cord clamping has become the standard for a reason. There may be certain adverse effects of delayed cord clamping that we just don't know about. So please, do your research before requesting it and listen to the advice of your ob. Surely the doctors know more than us (hopefully lol).
I am also very interested in this and also a FTM. I'm going to ask my Dr about it on Thursday.
It also allows more time to pass antibodies to the newborn. An extra 60 seconds is all it takes. I am a ftm, but I read articles about delayed clamping a few years back for a physiology paper. It is very interesting and I plan on asking my Dr. If it is an option.
I'm going to ask they delay cord clamping. Asked with my second but they forgot and clamped him off right away to examine him. He was so pale for hours. Delayed clamping helps them with transition since they are still getting oxygen from mom. Just make sure your support person reminds them when baby is crowning since they tend to get over excited and forget deviations from their normal.
I read about this last week in a magazine. I've never heard about it before. I'm going to ask my Dr. About it this week to get her opinion on it :)
My 4th pregnancy but 3rd successful pregnancy
I've also never heard of this and this is my third baby.
Don't worry I'm the last to assume you're being smart but that's just what I read, I'm as clueless as you. Never heard or thought of it.
I've heard that it helps transition the baby's breathing easier gives them more stem cells - higher iron and better immune systems- and usually only takes 1-2 minutes for the cord to stop pulsating. This is my fourth and I've never heard of it so I am curious if others have any experience with it...
So momofkj u r saying that if the baby keeps the cord on longer after being born...baby blood & iron levels r suppose 2 b better...& I'm not being smart I'm really just asking bc I've neva heard of it...interested n learning new things that I've neva heard of...& do u know how long would baby extend cord stay??
It results in healthier blood and iron levels
I'm about to Google it, it may be healthier.. Something like cord blood banking I guess.
I don't understand the reason 4 delaying it either...I've neva heard of it and this is my 3rd time around
I'm ignorant to this subject.. what are the benefits of delaying the cord being clamped?
