diet soda

What is everyone's thoughts on drinking diet soda? I know they say to stay away from artificial sugars, but I've been drinking diet soda forever & I'm having a hard time giving it up. Is one a day bad?

Aspartame (Equal, or the main artificial sweetener in diet cokes) is soooo so so bad for you... Pregnant or not.  I started getting grossed out by artificial sweeteners in organic chemistry freshman year of college because we learned how they were all made.  For example... Splenda (different than aspartame & saccharine) is essentially chlorinated sugar.  All of the hydrogen molecules on the hydrocarbon are popped off and chlorine molecules are attached in their place.  Disgusting.

Saccharin & aspartame can actually cause withdrawal just like caffeine or alchohol. Saccharin (sweet n low) actually makes my body break out into hives.

Why not just flavor sparkling water and sweeten with either a natural or a plant based sweetener like stevia or honey or agave nectar?

The worst thing in pop is high fructose corn syrup.  It's not normal sugar, and it's really bad for your body.  I know in the U.S, you guys have Pepsi and mountain dew throwback.  It's made with table sugar, tastes waaay better, and is no worse for you than home baked goods.  It's definitely the better of three evils.

Aspartame is really bad. It's also in most diet sodas. Diet sodas are nothing but chemicals. If you want soda I'd go for regular.

I get headaches on a regular basis n talked to my OB (whom I love n trust!) About it. She said its fine to drink a can a day but I don't drink diet. Obviously everyone is going to have a difference of opinion.  But there's women out there smoking cigs, smoking weed,   drinking alcohol,  n having healthy babies=\ I trust my dr, one can of regular soda isn't a big deal in my opinion.  But that's jus me.

I love diet pepsi. I have heard all the negitive sides it has but have never been able to give it up until I found out I was pregnant. I read that too much caffine is bad for the baby so I stick to caffine free sierra mist or sprite when I crave soda. Im 10 weeks today I hope this will help me stop drinking diet soda for good :)

I grew up on it. loved it! But I read and watched a lot about it and decided to stop drinking it all together! Real bad for you.

For one, it tastes awful, and second, it's terrible for you.  I cannot understand any reason for someone to drink that crap.  There's no benefit to it at all.  Why not just drink water, or juice? Sparkling water if you "need" carbonation.  Artificial sweeteners make me feel like I'm catching a flu.

I heard/read it's worse than regular soda, but my doctor never mentioned it being bad. I don't drink diet though, so I don't know for sure.

Id say once every 2 weeks would be ok. That stuff has bren proven to cause brain damage.  Your better off drinking half a regular soda. I dont think soda is worth it in general. Maybe coffee mixed with bubbly water?
