Oh cool...thanks. :) I had heard about this but had never been able to find someone who has been through this. Hope you didn't mind me picking your brain a bit. I felt bad calling a specialist and kinda bugging them with the odder questions. Thanks for the help. :)

I think it's very beneficial too and most women either don't know or are too afraid to ask about it. I've actually heard of plenty women only bleeding for 7days post partum with the placenta pills!! I also suffered from not only Post partum depression but low iron levels and extreme fatigue with my 1st child. All symptoms that can be helped thru taking placenta pills. Oh, and increasing milk production too! I'm meeting with my specialist tomorrow and can't wait to see the difference in recovery this time around. They say the average placenta makes between 90-150 pills so we'll see but I see SO many posts about mommies dealing with depression, milk production, fatigue, recovery time, etc and everyone keeps throwing around "medicine". I don't want to rush out to the greedy pharmaceutical companies to alleviate my symptoms!

I plan on doing this too and am very exited. The Doula who is doing mine said she didn't take them after her first and bled for 6 weeks, but took them with her second and only bled for 3 weeks. I am glad that woman are getting educated about it because I think it is very beneficial.

@neebs26- my specialist charges a $25 deposit and then $175 when she actually does the encapsulation but, if you pay in advance she waives the deposit and it ends up being just $175. You can also pay an extra $15 and get the grape flavored capsules!
@shastas84-how they do it is you have to sign a release form for the hospital to release your placenta to you after birth. You put it in a gallon zip lock bag and put in on ice in a small cooler until a family member or friend can take it home and put it in your fridge for you. You have to get it done within 48hrs, if not, it must go into the freezer where it will be good for up to 6months. Then the specialist comes to your house and its a 2day process. I'm not 100% sure of all of the exact steps but I do know that they use your oven to dehydrate the placenta. Then they ground it up into a very fine powder and put them into capsules that you can take as soon as possible to help you recuperate from delivery faster. It contains all of your own bodies vitamins and hormones which helps you bounce back.
Also, I'm not sure if you ladies know but you can put the remaining capsules in the freezer and they will be good all the way up until you hit menopause. Then, instead of buying all these over the counter menopause pills to alleviate symptoms you can take your placenta pills and it works even better to regulate your hormone levels and alleviate symptoms!! You can also take them during your menstrual cycle to help with fatigue, pain, flow, and mood swings!

How do they do it? Does the doctor save the placenta in a special kit or something? Sorry, I know these are crazy questions. I have no one I know to ask. Hope is OK.

My question is probably super crazy...does it look like a regular pill? What about taste? I have been interested in this, just never knew anyone I could ask for details.

I'm so excited! I wish I would have known about this with my son (13yrs ago) especially since I had some PPD. I'm meeting up with my encapsulation specialist this week! If you pay in advance it's $25 less and with my baby shower money and my dads contribution I'm there! Most women don't know about it and I always see mothers and mothers to be commenting and complaining about PPD, milk production, energy levels, and recovery time, among other things and I wanted to raise some awareness as far as options instead of running to the pharmaceutical companies for relief!!
