Love the name it does sound Russian though.  Perhaps u may want to change the spelling to the Russian way Alexei?  That way ppl won't get so confused.  Just a thought.  Either way the pronunciation of the name does sound very masculine.

Alexei was one of the brothers in The Brothers Karamazov (Russian novel)... So definitely a boy name originally.

Could be unisex. But it definitely sounds like a Russian male name though. If you love it, go with it!

It sounds male to me, and sounds like a name coming from a cool Russian type background. I'm sure it could of course be a girls name, but does that really matter to do what someone thinks of your childs name? If you had a girl and named her "Joey" or "Jordan" or "Taylor", "Reece", etc, there are so many names out there that work for males and females interchangeably.

I honestly would prob look for a girl if I was doing roll call..... but your mom so it really doesn't matter what anyone else thinks of your name pick.
