does this sound right coming from obgyn personnel?

I'm going on 30 weeks pregnant and I've been having constant menstrual like pains around the lower abdomen area as well as menstrual like lower back pain.  I feel constant activity with the baby's head moving around my uterus. I go to the doctor and keep in mind I mostly see the nurse instead of the doctor,  so I ask her if she can please check for any dilation cause I'm a little worried and would like a heads up if I'm indeed beginning to open early. The nurse says it's better not to check because checking will only open me more. Does that sound right? My friends doctor checked her when she asked and it turned out she actually was 1 cm open...

I heard that checking can put you in labor. My doctor didn't start checking me till I was 36 weeks and I got my membranes sweep and now I am 39 weeks and lot of pressure, cramps and still no baby.

My doc had no problems with checking me at 30 weeks when I was concerned. I would maybe see if you can schedule an appt with your doc instead of the nurse.

That is true it can cause quicker progression if you are but keep in mind early labor can be LONG! I started early labor with my second around 32 weeks and he was born at 37-38 weeks after a membrane sweep.

She's right, checking could cause you to open further, if you are. At 34 weeks, since you already suspect early labor, it is better to not check. They wouldn't stop labor at this point anyway.
