Don't worry just practice good hygiene. Its bodily fluid contact not airborne. Lots of people are panicking because of the news but it's not that easy to catch. Those medical people were in an area with bad hygiene practices and weren't good at it themselves probably seeing several people a day.
No you're not the only one scared. I hate how the news keeps making it sound like it's not that bad and here in the USA we got it under control because of our hospitals and that's only transmitted if you have direct contact with the patients. But it's also transmitted thru formites, anything that patient touches- gets contaminated and if you touch it then you get it.
I saw this documentary where ebola wiped 30 doctors and nurses within a week and hundreds of people in the village. I don't know if it was because Africa didn't have the means but it killed sooo many people. Infected people would die within 7-10 days!!!
so it's pretty scary. ..
My husband is freaking out about it to and as the nurse in the family I need to calm him down LOL... Its not transmitted by touching what another person touched, someone with Ebola could sneeze near you and you still wouldn't get it. The virus is most concentrated in blood, vomit, and stool so unless you are handling the excrement of the infected person the chances of you contracting it are slim to none. The two people the US has are also being held in a super high level isolation facility, which they've also has people there with SARS and Marburg virus which you don't see rampant around the country. Drs and nurses in Africa were dying because they are involved in direct patient care and don't have the means to isolate patients the way that we do here. Also this strain of Ebola that is involved in this outbreak had only had a 53% fatality rate so far, and that's in Africa!
No. I was until I did some research.
Im not worried at all this mass hysteria reminds me of the days when people thought you could get hiv/aids by shaking someone's hand or if they breathed on you Ebola is not spread by touch or airborne you have to be in contact with an infected person body fluids unless you've been to west Africa or you're are in contact with the ebola patients at Emory hospital you should not worry
I'm not worried about it bc I've done research on the disease.
I was scared at first, but now I think the news is making it sound far worse than what it is.....for u.s. citizens at least, and that is just to keep people aware Of what is going on. Just understand that the media has to keep us informed. So the constant coverage about it makes it seem like its a big deal here. Its really bad in Africa.
I must live under a rock cause this is the first I've even heard of it I try not to freak when they make a big deal about any of the viruses going around cause if you do you might as well live in a bubble. Just make sure you keep up with good hygiene and you should be fine
Thanks guys all different opinions and inputs are appreciated. Feel a lot better now thanks! ☺
