thanks for sharing ladies ... I guess each of these procedures is on a different pain level for each of us. I can't wait to get it all over with and hold my baby girl in my arms.
I've had 3 csections. No enema. They wait to put the catheter in until after the epidural so you don't feel it and don't know it's there. The epidural however I am not going to lie can be painful when they are putting it in. Have to sit on the surgery bed with your legs dangling and head down...like you are trying to be a ball. I have had one anesthesiologist get it right away so only a quick painful time and I have had one miss a few times. It hurt so bad i wanted to hit him...I actually did yell at him haha. But my husband sat in a chair in front of me while I was attempting the ball position and he would help hold me in the position. As soon as it is in the pain disappears...then they start to poke you with something sharp to see where you still have feeling. Also something they will explain to you but scared the crap out of me and still does everytime. ..after the baby is out I feel like I can't breath. They have oxygen that they put on me...more for comfort but it is a scary feeling...try not to freak out if it happens. The best part is there is a nurse at your head talking to you and paying very close attention to you and your needs...voice how you are doing and feeling to them. Sorry so long
I had vaginal birth that was induced. I had an I.v. for pain meds and an epidural. No enema or catheter.
I don't think they do enemas anymore. The iv feels like a little prick, but it's necessary. The catheter is only for c section and they put that in after the epidural or spinal block. The epidural itself doesn't hurt either, it's just another shot.
No enema for a vag birth or a c section. But you get the catheter for both If you get the epidural they don't want you to get up after but when you going to deliver they take it out. For a c section if you get the epidural they take the catherer out once you wake up & can feel your lower part of body. it depends if you get a spinal tap they leave the catheter in for a day till the medicine wears off. & you only get the I've drip if your strep b test came back positive.if having a c section you there is no need. The only thing that is bothersome is the catherer.
I've had two csections and never had an enema. I did get a spinal tap but not an epidural. I got a catheter and iv. The iv hurt but only for the moment when they were putting it in and then you kind of forget about it. The catheter is extremely uncomfortable in my opinion. That's probably the thing I dread the most. The spinal tap stings when they first do it but then you don't feel anything so I guess in my opinion the catheter and the spinal are the two things I hated the most.
With my csection which wasn't scheduled I got the epidural and then they put in the catheter so I didn't even feel it. Then i got an iv drip of pain meds afterwards.
It might depend on where you're at, but you do not get an enema for a vaginal birth. I don't know about c section. I've never had an epidural but the Iv and catheter were no big deal.
