My mil will be in the room when he is born but won't be around him much after that until I feel comfortable bringing him around. And my husband doesn't have insurance yet. That's why I was curious.
They can be around the baby but they should be very careful. There have been whooping cough outbreaks in mn too

My doctor recommends you get the tdap with each consecutive pregnancy between weeks 27-36. Also its best to have people who are going to be spending time with the baby to be protected too. We pass some of the immunity to the baby so its important to get.
My Dr recommended I get it today evidently whooping cough is real big in Oklahoma. But she made it sound like if they didn't have it they couldn't be around the baby at all.
They have recently found out that expecting moms can get it and pass it to the fetus. My midwife is recommending it after 30 weeks. My husband got it with our first before he left the hospital. My mom and mil never got it I don't think.
They highly encourage those who will be around your baby to get it but, it is NOT required to be at the birth they can't do that.
Never heard of that either. I got the shot right before I left the hospital with my baby. The only other person they recommended get the shot was my husband because he's around her all the time too.
I have never heard this before, and didn't think they gave that shot to pregnant women.
Whoever is going to be around the baby after s/he is born then they need the shot 2 weeks before.
They just need the shot beforehand.
