doppler or not to doppler

Hi ladies....I'm thinking about buying a doppler to keep a check on baby. I'm 14wks 4 days. My only concern is that I wont be able to find it regularly and it will stress me out. I lost a baby in October I thought I was 11wks but on scanning baby had died at 8wks. This is the main reason why I want to get one. Ive never used one before with my son and daughter.
Should I leave it for my midwife appointments or shall I get one? Do they just cause unnecessary stress? Confused.com

Just depends on you :) I think it would cause me more stress and anxiety and I'd use it all the time... I'm just relying on baby movements to make sure everything is okay. Some people might find a doppler more comforting... Each to their own!

I suggest no Doppler. It just serves as an anxiety creating machine rather more then a reassurance.

I'm 12 weeks 3 days and have had my dropper at home for about 2 weeks now and LOVE it! I get to hear the heartbeat whenever I want which is amazing but also I got it from babybeat .com and it was 125 for 6 months, not expensive at all and beyond worth it :)

I would say that u leave it to your ob & midwife. Yes I feel it would cause unessecary stress.  Exactly what u don't need.  There's a a lot of joy in going to your ob appt & seeing baby on the monitor.  I'm always anticipating my next appt. Keeps me on my feet, gives me something to look forward to.

I have one! I bought it on craigslist and used it with my first pregnancy a few times.. it was fun for my hubby and friends to play doctor. I even used it on my other pregnant friends. Its very easy to detect!!! Easier than u think.. I can almost gaurantee you will detect it each time.. i dont even read the doppler.. i just lay there and move it around and listen for it.. and itll get louder as youre moving closer to the baby.. get it!!!!!!!!!

My doctor said that the one they sell is not like the one they have at doctors its just like a regular sethoscope with a speaker. Dont know what that means but he said its not worth it. I have a sethoscope and cant hear nothing but i can gear my own heart! Lol

Its a tough one. My partner is against it because he knows what I'm like. I'd just stress but I just feel so anxious inbetween midwife appointments. I'm in the UK and midwife appointments appear to get less and less with each pregnancy. So the time between each one feels like a life time x

I know your concern.  I was 21 weeks 3 days when I learned my son's heart stopped beating. I delivered him still born in July 26, 2013. I am currently 30 weeks tomorrow with another boy. I bought one and at first it will take some time finding the heart beat. I use it once in a blue moon when I don't feel him moving as much.  I got it for my own piece of mine.  Also my 6 and 7 year old girls love listening to his heart beat as well. Good luck honey. .... If you feel it will help I say by All means......

Ive got one ordered, it should be here Monday.  I'm almost 18 weeks.  It may not be my best idea, BC I also have a tilted uterus, and it sometimes takes the Dr a few minutes to get it.  I have a Dr appt next Friday, so if I can't find a heart beat, I'm going to bring it with me so she can show me:)

I'm thinking about the same thing! But my midwives have never even gotten in at my appts yet. I have a tilted uterus and it is really far back I guess. So I don't want to get one and freak myself out every day! Hard decision... I might get one further along when baby is bigger and its easier to find. I'm 14&2 so we are pretty close

I'm a ftm & I've decided that a doppler is going to make me more paranoid & obsessive. I'll be checking 1000 times a day & if I have a day I can't find the heartbeat I'll completely freak myself out. I've decided to trust in nature, woman have been having babies for millions of years. I'm going to stay calm & have faith in my little baby x
