thyroids

B4 pregnancy I had hyperthyroidism and I stop taking my medicine because it was hard to remember to take pills everyday. I'm not a big pill taker anyways. I went to my ob at 8 weeks. She did all my blood work and everything was pretty normal. I went back at 18 weeks for blood work to check on the baby and now I'm showing hypothyroidism. Which is worst I was told so she started me on medicine. She was confused as to why it dropped so low and request another test. I'm worried have anyone else experience this?

If I were you hun I would find an endocrinologist or a naturopath dr in your area and start working with them. You don't want to start and stop and thyroid meds. That can cause a whole mess of problems. If you levels returned to normal while on the medication that means it's working which isn't a reason to stop taking them. I have had thyroid issues for over 10 years now and all my research points to something going on. Thyroid cancer is not very common amd Graves is highly treatable. If I were you I would get a second opinion as soon as possible. Please let me know if you have questions and I will do my best to help.  Best of luck momma!

My doctor did my blood work again before I left and I took the medicine for 3 days. She called me back and told me to stop taking the medicine because it came back normal. She sent me for a level 2 ultrasound to check the baby thyroids and his was normal as well. I'm now seeing a high risk ob also who works side by side with her and now they're concerned my thyroids could be graves diesase or cancer. So I have to see an oncologist also. But the good news is my prince is doing good even 2 oz bigger then normal

Starting and stopping thyroid meds is really dangerous. You need to work with a. Dr on that especially while pregnant. I am hypothyroid and have hashimotos disease as well. I have been on thyroid meds for a long time now and wouldn't be able to function well without them. I have had to increase my dose twice with this pregnancy and have blood work every 5 weeks to check everything.  Hypothyroid is pretty common in pregnancy as the baby starts to produce thyroid and your body's blood volume nearly doubles your thyroid often slows down and what natural thyroid your body is making is going to baby.

i had subclinical hypothyroidism when i first got pregnant.  my thyroid went alittle crazy but leveled out enough my dr didn't seem concerned and just had me get blood work done once a month to make sure everything was okay. my last test showed that i had hypothyroidism so I've been on synthroid for the last 4 weeks and im checking my levels next week to make sure the doses are working. unfortunately the thyroid is something that can be affected by pregnancy with all the changes and stress on the body. similar to gestational diabetes. I've had my moments of stress with it but my doctor didn't seem too worried. i think if it goes unchecked or untreated you do run the risk of preterm labour. so that could be your doctors concern.
