Group B Strep Positive??!

Does anyone know if I tested positive for Group B Strep with my first pregnancy, will I be positive with every pregnancy? I'm not sure if this comes & goes, or stays with you thru each n every pregnancy. This is my 2nd, & I mentioned I had it to my doctor with my 1st pregnancy, but he never really responded. I googled it all I could, but could never find an answer. Anyone familiar with this? I'm 35 weeks pregnant now.

Group b strep can increase the risk of wound infection in C-sections. And it's still important for them to test you in case you go into natural labor before your scheduled c section. Should be fine unless your water breaks before your surgery. That's what I found when I did my research last night. And thanks to all for the info. It really helps! I'm assuming my doctor will test me on my next visit or 2 since I'm 35 weeks now. Hopefully! Good luck everyone!

No they won't test me again, I took antibiotics for 10 days as soon as they found out and I'll get antibiotics as soon as I go into labor.  They said since I tested positive at 8 weeks they'll just take extra precautions and give me antibiotics again.

Wow KarrieP they tested you that early?!?! It could go away before the end of your pregnancy. Are they going to test you when you're closer??

I had 2 neg one one pos and I won't know with this one til past 36weeks as it comes and goes which is why in uk we don't get tested for it unless it shows up in other tests or you have had a baby who was effected by it before.

I tested negative with my first pregnancy but ended up being positive after I delivered so my son picked up the blood infection when he was born.  Worst experience ever. He had to be in the nicu for two weeks hooked up to an iv with antibiotics. So for my second pregnancy I took the antibiotics through my iv even though I tested negative again.  I wasn't going to put my son through all that his brother had gone through.  And for this pregnancy I am doing the antibiotics again. There's nothing to it.

Big belly it's a test similar to a pap they do toward the end of your pregnancy and if you are positive they will give you iv meds during labor to protect baby from getting various infections. It's a desease of sorts like the previous poster said that comes and goes in pregnancies and some women get it and some don't but it's in the vaginal canal and baby can be exposed to it during birth. I can't remember exactly what they were linking it to but it's a test they automatically do now because so many babies were dying that were perfectly healthy until born. But if you Google it you will understand better. Even if you plan an unmedicated birth if you have it they will give you they antibiotic during labor to protect baby.

It does come and go that's why they wait till the end to test, I've been pos with three of my pregnancies and neg with one. So it could go either way
