forgetting your baby/tot in car

What on earth is wrong with all these parents who forget their precious cargo  in the car? Ive been reading alot of headlines on innocent babies dying bc of their careless parent " tragic accident mistake". I think the parents should do jail time and a safety course for being so careless. What on earth where u doing,  that u were dumb enough to neglect your child, which resulted in death..

Its so disturbing. I can understand if you forgot for a quick second, but 6 hours?!? But we do have to realize that theres an alarming problem with drug use and psychological issues in the USA. I think most people that have children shouldnt even be allowed to breed.

Crazy!! I couldn't forgive someone or myself if that happen to me.  I read on the news they have support groups for these parents,  which is great bc i can only imagine the pain and guilt. But yes that father on news i believe he intended for his son to die and playing victim since other parents have got off the hook for accidently killing their kid by leaving them in the car!

You know how sometimes if you have a long commute or a long drive that you take all the time, you'll realize at one point that you've been driving for a while but you can't remember actually making the trip? Like, you were on complete autopilot and you got there safely but can't quite remember how?
Sometimes a routine is just that ingrained that your active brain shuts down and lets your subconscious take over especially in times of stress or exhaustion (like having a newborn baby). Totally normal and completely blameless reality of how the brain works. When a routine changes, sometimes the subconscious doesn't recognize it - and if the baby is rear facing, uncommonly quiet or sleeping in the car, no reminders like diaper bag or purse or phone placement as a trigger... it can happen.
I can guarantee that almost every time this has ever happened (except when it's on purpose which is an abuse I cannot fathom and this is the first time I've ever heard of such a case) the parent involved swore that they could never do such a thing and they couldn't ever imagine forgetting their baby anywhere.
The best way to avoid it ever happening is to acknowledge that it can and does happen to good, smart, loving, wonderful parents. It CAN happen to you. Being aware of it is what makes people take precautions to avoid it. Take steps to prevent it - even if you're sure it could never happen to you.

I admit I have left my son in the car but he was right in my driveway fat doors open and I was walking back and forth taking grocery's into garage then once they were all pulled into garage I would go unbuckle him he has been taught don't unbuckle unless mommy does it or someone he don't know comes near the car while I am putting grocery's from store the very back of van and into the garage  at home he has always been in site/me close to van but I have never had to put anything in front seat or a item I would normally take in his in back seat cause I would never just forget my son was in the car even if I was not the normal person whom picks up or drops my kid /takes my kid everywhere.

It typically happens when the parent who doesn't usually drop their child off takes them to day care. People are creatures of habit. That is why they recommend that you either put your everyday items in the back seat, or have a designated baby item that you move to the front seat whenever your baby is in the car. The majority Of People That this happens just forgot, and they are punishing themselves more than any jail sentence would.

It's a tragedy and can happen to good parents who are exhausted and drained.  Some friends have recommended putting your purse or one shoe in the back seat with baby so he can't be forgotten.   So sad.  I have actually left a dog in the car before. Accidently, of course and she was fine but I see how it can happen.  I will be putting one shoe back there with baby every single time.

Omg that is sick. That someone would do it on purpose. I mean its awful in any situation. But that's just so horrible! Poor helpless babies strapped into car seats. I can't even think about it anymore!

Omg I hadent read he had looked up how to kill a dog... wow... I've read articles that parents should leave their cell phones or purses in back seat to keep this from happening. Omg seriously your phone is more important than your child that you wouldn't forgrt it.. ridicoulus I have no sympathy for people who do this!!!!

I just read one today the police think he did it on purpose. He had took his kid to a fast food place, then drove four miles to his work. Said he forgot to take his son to the daycare. And, he had taken something to the car at lunch time.. also found that he had searched how long it takes animals to die when left in a hot vehicle. His son was 22mos.. smh.. child murders.. i couldnt imagine doing that to a child.
