Water, high fiber diet, drinking tea when you wake up and when you go to bed. The hotness helps break down gas. Don't eat a meal to close to bed time.

Make sure your drinking plenty of fluid 8 to 10 glasses and eat plenty of fiber rich foods (fruits, veggies, grains), and exercise can help if your doctor says it's okay.  Even with all of this I still have to take colace  (stool softner) because it's so bad.
