How do you lie?

I have read that once you are pregnant you should try to avoid lying on your back and also that its best to lie on your left side. Not sure why or how seriously to take this advice.  Its hard enough getting comfy anyway when your pregnant!

So how do you lie? On your left? Your right? Your back? Upside down? On a comical pillow mountain?  I'm intrigued

Thanks everyone! Its comforting to hear we're all in the same boat.  Sometimes being uncomfortable in pregnancy really gets me down. But I think I'm gonna not worry too much about how I'm lying and just keep in the back of my mind that 'left is best'.

Has anyone bought the big pregnancy pillows? I'm wondering if rolled up sleeping bag might be just as good. Poor hubby isn't gonna be able to cuddle me for the next three months! Lol!

rasberryxtreme, which body pillow would you recommend?

I was told not to sleep on my back after 32 weeks because of the size and weight of the baby affecting oxygen supply. I wake up on my right side though and just flip back over to my left. I got a body pillow early on and am glued to that thing at night!

I tend to flop around all night because of comfort and when the baby changes position she throws my weight off. But this pregnancy I LOVE sleeping on my back! I just cant help it. So I try and put a pillow under my hip or lower back so that at least im not flat.

Its better to sleep on your left because it gives Baby more oxygen and better air supply and they say not to sleep on your back because of the nerves and it could stop the airflow and blood supply from getting to your baby but I'm in the hospital at 24 weeks with a girl and they let me sleep on my back its just however your comfortable to sleep before I ended up in the hospital I was sleeping on my tummy at home

I sleep on both sides because usually i get sore n have to switch after a while i asked my doc is tht ok i was told it is fine the reason they tell u to sleep on the left is because the blood flows better to the baby...They said not to sleep on ur back because it can mess with the flow of oxygen

I can barely sleep on my left side its super uncomfortable for me so I tend to sleep on my right side to fall asleep then move positions all night...if I do sleep on my back I make sure I have a pillow under one of my sides to tilt me a little because I convinced myself its better than straight back sleeping :)

The reason to sleep on your left is that you're less likely to get heart burn because of how your stomach sits. Also its just better for your circulation...but after researching, sleep however your comfortable. Your body is designed to alert you if you were ever in a position for too long that could be causing a problem. I've read that its kind of like fainting when your blood pressure drops...if your circulation cuts off anywhere you'll get cramping, pain or a pulse racing so bad it'll wake you up...so just try to be as comfy as possible. Body pillows really help :-)

I took the advice serious. Only the not sleeping on my back advice. It gets rather uncomfortable once you have the big belly. I CANT sleep on my.left side though, at all! It hurts my belly because my baby sticks to my right side. So I always slept on my right side. I'm 39wks2days and still can only sleep on my right.

I never bothered with my first two pregnancies, I just slept as comfortably as possible. They turned out normal and healthy. I'm 7w4d now and still sleeping on my belly most nights...

I've heard not to sleep on your right side since the blood flows  better to the baby  when laying on your left . I fall right to sleep when laying on my right side  though. versus being unusually uncomfortable on my left. My husband has grown used to making me turn over  to my left side  in the middle of the night if he catch me sleeping on my back or right , pretty annoying .
