I got heartburn during my first trimester as well (still do and I'm in my third trimester).  I find eating watermelon and drinking watermelon smoothies help get rid of it.  Of course tums help too but if you want a tastier alternative, try watermelon.

I got omeprazole from my gp when I was pregnant last time and I took one a day it stopped the heartburn completely. I'm 13 weeks tomorrow and have just been prescribed it again as heartburn had started. Not had it for 3 days now it's great. Speak to your doctor and see what they say. I tried everything else and nothing worked apart from these tablets. Hope you find something to help you heartburn is horrible.

I would actually ate foods such as pineapple and pickles and it seemed to help. Sometimes milk helped, but for the most part itmade it worse for me.
