Due to pregnancy your muscles DO relax and the esophageal sphincter that keeps food down RELAXES allowing for your stomach acids to come up.  Certain foods can RELAX this muscle when you're not pregnant such as alcohol.

Heartburn is not your muscles relaxing.. heartburn is a build up if acid in your stomach which can rise up into your throat. The more it happens, the worse each time gets. Tums, bread, milk, bananas can help. Your Dr can prescribe you something to take daily. Some foods can make it worse, but it's different with everyone. Drink lots of water with meals.

The heartburn is due to your muscles relaxing.  There isn't much you can do except eat smaller more frequent meals and don't lie down after sleeping.  Drink some milk when it gets bad.  I have 6 weeks left and heartburn just hot me.  I asked the midwife for remedies and she said there isn't anything effective.  I guess it's just one of those pregnancy things we have to deal with.
