hidden twin on ultrasound exam

I have had an ultrasound three times now (12wks, 15wks, and 19wks)  The first one was to check for a twin pregnancy, which they only saw one, and with the other two the tech never looked for a twin at all eventhough I hinted towards them into looking. I have measured atleast a month ahead since I was 12 wks and I have felt movement since 12wks (which made the dr check for twins) I felt that the dr was rather quick as he was way behind with his patients.  I had an emply bladder (I thought that you were not supposed to for an u/s)I also had morning sickness a couple of times and didn't have any with my first two pregnancies, I have been in maternity clothes since 8wks, I have gained 30lbs,had really bad headaches and have been dreaming of twins even before the dr thought it was twins, twins run on my side of the family as well. I also am hungry every two hrs, have to use the bathroom atleast once and hour.  I am now 24wks 5 days and I feel like I am having twins (I have always thought this) I can feel the baby move under my ribs on the right side and down in my pelvic area on both sides at the same time.  What I want to know, is it possible that the first doctor missed the twin and the other two techs didn't see one as they thought that there was no need to look for one?  Could I have a second baby hiding in there and it not have been seen?  I see my OBGYN in two weeks and I feel silly bringing this up to her if there is no way that this could be possible.  Any input on this would be great.  Sorry to make this so long.  Thanks.

No modern, correctly performed ultrasound misses a twin.  I hope everything works out the way you want it to, though.

I've known a woman who recently had twins and they didn't know until she delivered...so it can happen. We're in the same boat with my daughter. This is her first pregnancy.First sono showed 2 intermitent heartbeats then only one. @ days later, sono showed 1 baby. A month later the doppler heartbeat had one loud heartbeat & one faint echo yet the sono showed 1 baby still, excpt this time a small part of a 2nd fluid sac was poking out from behind the top side of the visible baby's sac. My daughter has felt movement since 14 weeks, at 16wks you could actually see the littletush of a baby pushing up & out one side of her belly, and she's been in maternity clothes since she was 10 wks. Now granted, my daughter is not a plus size normally but she is no stick figure either. She has a little extra fluff around her middle normally so I would think everything I listed above wouldn't be happening so soon. Twins run in our family too. She'll get her 18 - 20 wk sono soon....hopefully we'll know for sure with this one so we can plan properly. Good Luck to those still wondering like us!!!

OK, so I'm FEELING THE SAME thing....I'm measuring 6 weeks ahead (at 24 weeks I was measuring 30 weeks)....now I'm freaking out and just wondering if this person ever did have twins?  I've had U/S at 8w, 12w and 20w...now I'm 26 weeks and outgrew all my maternity tops...I have proof of two different movements on video and hopefully getting a scan....she's notthe only crazy one....at my 20w scan, I TOLD the guy to scan my right rib because i was feelng kicks there at 14 weeks...he just LAUGHED at me!  Thank god i'm not the only one that's been denied....I just wish this woman came back on here and updated this!!!  I'd love to prove this doctor that I'm right and he's wrong!!  I'll def be on to update myself in 13 days :)

i am having twins. they knew at 5 weeks. you could not miss them on every ultrasound. i am not nearly hungry as every one else because i feel full all the time. i had early movement and i do pee alot. the point is with twins you have two heartbeats. dopplers would catch that and make the doc look further, and it's darn near impossible to miss them on ultrasound after they get out of the pelvis.

oh and i am measuring 7 weeks ahead but at 23 weeks i have only gained 12 pounds. my twins sacs are one on top o the othere so i feel movement pretty constant, but usually in the same area all the time.

sorry to jump on the bandwagon, but i think it's one active little baby. good luck :)

A big baby, extra fluid, baby lying certain ways can all make you measure bigger. At 37 weeks I measured 46 (and I am only 5ft tall), I was carrying an 8lb10oz baby that was breech and I had a case of too much amniotic fluid. I had a csect at 37 weeks, can you imagine how big I would have been full term?!
