I agree with previous posters. If my husband would go for it I might consider a birthing center with #2, but want to add I had a wonderful natural first birth at hospital. The key is if you live close, labor at home as long as you possibly can. By the time we went to hospital I was already 10cm and starting to get urge to push so was too late for them to suggest any interventions! As long as your OB or midwife is supportive of your plan, and your husband or doula can be your advocate, I think hospitals can be great.
Thanks
Yes I believe trust and a good relationship is the most important.
I just feel like I will get pressured into unnecessary operations or procedures at a hospital.
I am more inclined to take the natural route.
Yup... Have had 2 homebirths and definitely want another one for this baby! Absolutely love them. Do consider the research says the risk is slightly higher for homebirth for first child (2nd, 3rd etc are equal risk or even safer than hospital). I lived down the road from a hospital so wasn't too concerned. The fact that you have your own midwife is the biggest positive I think... My sisters both had lovely hospital births with the same midwife... When there is familiarity, trust and respect I think a birth is set up the best it can be.
I would have liked to try a homebirth but my husband freaked out about it ;) so we are going for the hospital. Maybe with the next baby. I was thinking of a birthingplace as an option but he thought the problems where the same - heavy traffic, if something serius would happen.
