hospital stay

I asked my doctor how many nights we would have to stay in the hospital and she said two but if I have the baby at early in the morning (1am for example) then it would come out to three. If we are both healthy is there anything keeping us there for those two to three days?

I left 12 hours after I delivered my first. I was healthy and so was baby. I know with Csections its different.  But the hospital was crazy with ladies popping babies out in the waiting room. And I didnt want to take a bed if I didn't need it. You can legally sign yourself out even if they say no. And because my little one didnt poop yet they wanted me to stay the full 24 hours. She pooped just before I was going to sign out. Plus there is usually a home visit from a nurse here to check on you and baby the next day. I wasnt worried I walked outta there too. :)

With my first I had a c section and ended up staying for 8 days after it. It all depends.

I ended up having a c section with my daughter and was in the hospital for 5 days, my blood pressure wasn't coming down quick enough, my daughter was fine. I am going for my scheduled c section on the 18th and am so hoping that i wont be there that long this time, having the same blood pressure issues.

I am being induced on tuesday the 16th. But I am not effaced or dilate at all so they will give me meds to thin cervix tuesday have to be there at 5pm, and will start me on pitocen Wen. Next morning sometime. So I will probably have baby Wen. evening probably. Dr told me it would take two days to induce me and will be going home Thurs. So I will have a 3 day hospital stay. That's also if everything goes smooth and no complications. You never know how labor is going to go you have to be prepared.  I would pack a bag momma, good luck to you ♡ best wishes♡

You can leave when you want you would just have to sign a release form.  I know I don't plan on staying very long.  You are not a prisoner there.

The hospital I will be giving birth at will let us go home 4 hours after birth if there are no complications, however my midwife will come to my house daily for up to 2 weeks to check on things if needed.i plan on doing this as I only live about 3 min from the hospital anyway and would feel for comfortable at home

I had my first at 11 pm so i had to stay two nights since they didnt want to release me after 11pm the next night and they wanted to make sure my stitches were still holding. I had alot of stitches! My hospital is 24 hours usually and longer if complications.

Some hospitals have policy that insists you stay for two to three days. They want to make sure you have a bowel movement and pee before you leave and that baby will thrive once you all leave.

Good question. I have mentioned packing a bag and people keep telling me there is no need because you only stay one day. I didn't believe that was true I keep seeing in books and pregnancy sites that its 2 or 3 days. They all act like "well you will see when they kick you out the next day."

I'd advise staying longer than a day. There is a high risk after birth for hemorrhage and blood clots for you. The nurses will come on every 2 hours to press on your uterus to make sure it is going down and you aren't bleeding too much. And not to scare you, but a woman a few months ago on this forum went home with her son the day after giving birth and the next day her newborn died from an undiagnosed heart condition. I'm sure that mother went through so many "what ifs" thinking about what could have happened differently so her son would still be here. Maybe if they hadn't been discharged so early his heart condition may have been noticed. So staying longer than usual may not be the most comfortable, but no harm can come from it.

If you have a vaginal birth and things are fine with you and baby then you can ask to be released sooner. With my 1st they wanted us to stay 2 days with vaginal after birth. I had my son at 1:41am and left the hospital that same day at 3pm. My new dr this time said she probably wouldnt let us leave that early this time around but within a day if everything is smooth and were both good.

It all depends on how you're recovering and how efficiently they do what they need to the baby. Such as tests and vaccines. I didn't tear and my uterus already went down to where it couldn't be felt by the nurses by the second day. They also need you to pass gas and have a bowel movement before they discharge you. I was ready to leave by the next day going by those things, except I had my daughter on a Friday at an Army hospital and I wasn't discharged until Monday. I found out it was all because the Captain had to sign off on our discharge and she took her sweet time coming in, which she obviously didn't want to do over the weekend.
