I had 2 ectopic pregnancies...my hcg levels still rose... I had some bleeding with the first and terrible cramps, I had hardly any bleeding with the second. Both were diagnosed by ultrasound. Common symptoms are bleeding (normally happens first), cramps, and backache.

I agree with what she said and your HCG levels would be dropping. MC can be different as well, when I went through one at the ER I was told by the Dr. Some women have heavy bleeding and end up having healthy babies. I was also told some ppl barely bleed or have no real symtoms yet lose their babies.. Most signs usually back aches/abdominal cramping/passing clots or tissue (depending how far you are too). Losing pregnancy symptoms after experiencing symptoms just listed. With my 2nd MC I literally went through contractions and passed the sac (I was around 6wks). I felt 100% better once it was passed bc it was painful.. Hugs!! Hope for the best!!

You could tell with an ultrasound.
Normally the first noticeable symptom of a miscarriage  is heavy bleeding.
Or you are having an ultrasound and they say the fetus is no longer growing, then can judge by fetus size when it stopped growing.
