in all honesty..

How painful is it when they check for dilation? I'm 38 weeks and have an appointment on Tuesday and am terrified. The little swab they used for the step b test hurt like hell. Just curious what to expect..

Thanks ladies.. I really hope it isn't bad, I'm sure I'm making it worse in my head! I'm just such a big baby and a total pessimist. Thanks for all your input!

They use fingers, not a speculum like with yeast infections and stuff. It shouldn't hurt just be a lot of pressure and feel uncomfortable.  Try to mentally relax. If you tense your muscles it will be harder for them to reach your cervix and will cause a lot more pain.

Well I'm pretty tolerable to pain but it hurt me... But mainly because my cervix is pretty high on the account of me being 80% effaced, thats what they tell me anyway... I was sore for days lol...

If u were you I wouldn't get checked for one it seems more disappointing then helpful and 2  it is a way for infection to start. Down there when not needed imo

It's totally uncomfortable and depending on how low ur cervix is it can mildly hurt but it really just gets irritating during labor when they have to do it like every hour lol

Depends on who checks you. If you raise your pelvis with a pillow or whatever they have its easier.

I'm a whimp...I was so nervous before they started checking, it's nothing! Just some pressure. I was shocked with how "far up" she reached lol! Last week she told me she could feel his head! So weird! Good luck!

It depends on your pain sensitivity. Some people are babies about it. I have a tilted cervix so it's kinda hard to reach sometimes. Also your cervix can fluxuate near or far from the opening so some days it can be uncomfortable. But I would never say it's painful
