In the UK this does not happen unless you need one because of medical reasons(risks to you or baby) or you have gone over 41 weeks and are very close to 42. There are more medical problems to do with being induced. In the UK our birth and pregnancy is mostly overseen by midwives not doctors. In America it seems normal to be induced like in Brazil it's normal to have a csection. I think the inductions seems more down to the doctors wanting to plan when they are work rather than when the babies ready. I have never seen any medical proof of a normal healthy pregnancy needing to be induced be for 41 weeks.
It is medical. Amniotic fluid starts to become less after 38 weeks. The placenta also ages so baby is getting less nutrients. Also, the risk of stillborn increases after 41 weeks.
I was induced for my daughter n I gave birth 6 hrs later...at 38 weeks...she was big n her heart rate droped..after monitoring for 1 week I was finally induced..want same for dis preg..scared of complicates plz
I was told that the embryonic fluid lesses and there is less room for baby, so it increases complications with baby and mother.
It's not evidence based medicine, that's for sure. Maybe a lazy doctor who doesn't want his schedule shaken in the following weeks? Inducing early instead of just waiting (in a normal pregnancy) has a higher risk of foetal distress, epidural, forceps, tearing and c section. It's quite irresponsible for your doctor to expect you to be on board with all these extra complications, and totally your choice if you want to lower the risk of all this. You can refuse the induction if you want to, just say no!
My doctor won't let you go over your due date either. My daughter was 2 days early. I still had to be induced with her because I went into labor and was having contractions but wasn't dilating. This one is due on Dec 26th. Don't know if they will thay close to christmas or not.
This is my first baby, but I know my Dr also believes that if baby isn't here by his due date, to induce.
Something to do with the baby having their first bowel movement then, and it is very dangerous for them to imhale that.
Good luck and congratulations!
