is gestational diabetes related to type 1 diabetes in children?

I'm scared that all the sweets I crave and eat throughout the day will cause me to have GD.

but even worse, I'm wondering whether that could cause my baby to be born with type 1 diabetes? what are the effects of GD on the baby?

oh that's really helpful information! ! Thank you ladies  :-)

my dad has type 2 diabetes, since over 20 years now. I haven't really counted my carb intake, but I guess I shud. I don't have my glucose tolerance test until I'm 32 weeks. that's 12 weeks from now.

It's more of the number of carbs u intake. I'm on a low Carb diet due to gd.. I can only have 45g for breakfast and 60 for lunch and dinner and 15 for snacks.  It's also a good diet for managing weight gain.

Type 1 is typically a genetic abnormality or the result of an auto immune attack on the pancreas.. GD will not increase the risk of diabetes to your baby but you will be in a higher rust for type 2.

My hubby is type 1 as a result of auto immune attack which presented as glandular fever at 17, was diagnosed at 21.. We live a very happy normal life just takes a bit of planning and smart choices!

Thanks for your responses ladies!

I should curb my sugar intake. hubby says we're gonna have a fat baby if I continue snacking like this. I dont wanna play with her health and better learn to control myself instead.

It's type 2 that they are more at risk for.

I had gd and my daughter is almost 4 and she's fine! I don't have it this pregnancy so every time is different and I think it's a random thing that happens! Don't stress about that!

My mom never had GD and no one in the family (either side) had diabetes and my sister didn't get diagnosed with type 1 tell she was 18 months. 2 friends of mine (siblings) both were diagnosed with type 1 at the age of 16 and 14. So your child could have diabetes regardless.

It doesn't mean your baby will be more at risk for type 1. But it does mean you are more at risk to develop type 2 diabetes later. If you leave it untreated the baby is also at risk for type 2 later in life.
