is it safe?

Im 31w and my dr recently prescribed me Ambien. When I went to pick it up the pharmacist was shocked and in disbelief that my doc would precribe me thi knowing I was pregnant. I really feel I need the help but dont want to harm my baby. I am assuming that the doctor wouldnt give me anything that would put my baby at risk. Has anyone else taken this drug while pregnant?  How did it work for you?

I'd say get 3g Melatonin,  it's what your body produces anyway, and it's not a "drug"

I think that's a good plan, if you don't need a large dose there is no reason to take it. For me I found I did well with 7.5mg since I had taken it in the past. Getting sleep is important for your pregnancy, so maybe try to sleep without it now and then and if you can't sleep, then take the ambien.

My doc prescribed me 5mg tablets and said if they didnt work to take 2. I tried them for the 1st timelastnight and started with just half of the 5mg and managed to fall asleep within a half hr. So im thinking ill try to stick with that

I was perscribed Ambien during my first pregnancy 10yrs ago. As of lately it has become one of the medications that doctors and pharmacists are either completely for or completely against. Like so many others. If you are worried call your doctor and see if they are willing to perscribe you something else.

Also, if you have never taken it I would suggest trying 5 MG (half a pill) and if it works for you just take that amount.

My doctor gave me some when I got out of my first trimester. He advised me to only take it a couple times a week as to avoid dependency on it. Also, I didn't want my little man to struggle sleeping at Ruggles yet he comes because her got traces of it as well. I took it every 3 days or so, I didn't ask for a refill because I got to the point where I wanted to take it every night and knew I was becoming dependent.  I'd say if you can take it in moderation.

I was on it during all 4 of my pregnancys. I take 10mg at night. I've been on it for 12 years. Never had a problem.

When I looked it up online it seems to be a bit of a controversial topic. Some say its save and others say its not especially when starting it near delivery.

Looks like it is actually schedule B, meaning tests show it is safe during pregnancy

According to my drug book Ambien can cause neonatal respiratory depression when used near term... I'd ask your Dr if there is any safer alternative
