Is low iron normal in pregnancy?

I just took my glucose test yesterday and I passed however the doctor says my iron was low and I need to take an iron supplement with my prenatal. I'm 26 weeks on Sunday. the Dr said the baby was fine but I want to know if there were any other mommy's who had low iron and the baby was born completely healthy?

Exact same thing happened for me today. Did the test yesterday and got the call this morning that I'm a little anemic. Apparently iron supplements will make you constipated which is why I haven't been taking them, but there are some you can get with a stool softener in them that is alright to take while pregnant. I'm going to get some tomorrow. I've been so incredibly tired and taking 3 or 4 hour naps during the day if I can. Hopefully supplements will help. Good luck!

I'm on pregnancy number 4 and I've been anemic in all of them.  Just had to take iron supplements.   My first three were completely healthy and, so far this one's doing great as well.  My doctor never made a big deal about it and said it's very common in the third trimester,  so I never worried about it.

As hard as this sounds don't worry to much your body naturally gives baby everything they may need.. take your iron pills it will help for after delivery with blood loss you don't want your iron to go lower

Same situation I'm in. I got really nervous when I got a call because they say that no news is good news...I have been taking an iron supplement too.

Low iron doesn't harm your baby but could be dangerous to YOU. When you are in labour you will lose blood, if you're already anemic you may need a transfusion

Make sure you have lots of fibre in your diet (prunes etc) as taking iron supplements can back things up :(

Same thing happened to me. I'm slightly anemic so said I could take supplements or eat more food with iron. As long as baby ok, all that matters!  I sometimes wonder if should take supplements but too much iron isn't good either I guess so that's why just eating more foods with iron!

On supplements now too. The extra iron is for you not baby...the baby took yours already...little crumb snatchers!

Yea pregnancy can deplete your iron. It all goes to the baby. A lot of people have to take extra iron during pregnancy. Congratulations on passing the glucose test.
