lactose intolerant should I be concerned?

Ok I'm not able to drink regular milk. I never have been,  but I'm about 5 wks along and I've been drinking lactose free milk. Will that be enough for calcium?  I can eat spme cheese, yogurt,  and ice cream... in moderation.

That's ok. The documentary called Forks over Knives you can find on you tube is very interesting.  You can watch the trailer which is two minutes long and is shocking and a real eye opener. The book that you can read is called The China Study thats supports this programme and has over 30 years evidence of dairy and high meat intake linked with chronic diseases but its all politics and so information like this is kept secret. Me and my daughter havent had cows milk in over a year now and I try and keep healthy food in the house. I dont mean to preach or scare anyone I just wish people could know the right info as im sure all you mummies want the best for your bubbas. :)

Oh thanks for sharing Sophiajojo! My kids pediatricians are who told me it was uncommon to be lactose intolerant,  sorry for misinforming.  But both my kids and I have intolerance to any milk (or casien) in any of our food.  And yes we substitute with coconut milk, almond milk, and lots of veggies, I find veggies can substitute pretty much everything :-).  We also dont eat red meat, well I dont, kids and husband sometimes do, but we get our iron from our veggies :-D.

Oh and its actually normal to be lactose intolerant. ..its only because over time people have become immune yo drinking it. The protein caesin is harmful. Theres a clip of a documentary which you can see on YouTube called forks over knives its very interesting and explains

Im a nutritionist and have learnt that cows milk is really not good for you full stop.  Dont want to start up a debate but I dont drink cows milk after what I have learnt and you will find calcium in other sources such as dark green leafy veg...nuts like almonds...andyou can get alternative milk with added calcium in such as rice milk or almond milk..theres lots out there. Goodluck

I am not lactose intolerant but with my first one I couldn't eat dairy made me puke every time. I drank soy milk and took my multivitamins. First baby was very healthy! I still can't do dairy with this one either-

Thats why I call it milk intolerant not lactose ;-)
I have been tested by doctors and thats what they call it but yes it is the protien casien, which actually lots of infants before the age of one have issues with too.  Actually i learned most ppl actually aren't lactose intolerant but actually have an issue with casein but there is so little knowledge about that out there about it that ppl tend to think it is lactose intolerance.

KristiGG-if you are drinking lactose free milk with the same response than you are not lactose intolerant. I'd look into a casein allergy.

I am milk intolerant.   I cannot eat or drink anything with any milk, not even lactose free milk.  I also am soy intolerant.  I honestly dont drink much for any type of milk, sometimes I will have a cup of my daughters almond milk but that is all.  As long as you have a healthy balanced food diet it really shouldn't be an issue so I wouldn't worry too much about it :-)

I'm lactose intolerant too. I buy orange juice with calcium added and drink that.

Im also lactose intolerant and had the same concern. I drink lactaid milk. It still has the same calcium you need. My doctor also suggested the vi active chewables or taking 2-3 tums. Lactaid also has a calcium enriched milk too. And if you want a sweet treat they also make ice cream too. Their chocolate is pretty good. Good luck! :)

Vi active makes a chocolate chew calcium supplement. You should take 2 a day. They're pretty good. You need the calcium for a lot of reasons. .
