I am 18 weeks and had to stop working at my doctors request a couple weeks ago, my high risk complications were just not healthy for shift work (12 hour shifts day and night). Thankfully I get early disability/sickness benefits before my maternity leave starts in October

It really depends on if you have the money to do it and if your work offers insurance and you have short term disability your Dr has to pull you out for a medical reason. I'm fighting with my short term disability place now I applied for it back at the end of April and they are still processing it. First there was an issue with the date now they are saying there's an issue with why the Dr pulled me out it wasn't worded properly. But now at this point it I'm 36 +4 and can technically be pulled out for being this far along so now they are reprocessing it.

@amokarl do not sign anything unless you are 100% know what it is for and about. If you are not sure about what the paper is for most lawyers offer free or cheap consultations that could be well worth having the form looked at. If your job has an HR department they should be able to help you with disability information.

I was 38 weeks with my son when my midwives pulled me from work - my blood pressure was spiking and I had pretty severe edema so they wanted me to take it easy for the last couple weeks. I had an extremely demanding CNA job on a dementia unit in a nursing home so I was lifting and moving and bathing and changing and feeding people all day long and on my feet constantly, but I made it until they told me it was time to stop.
I'm a charge nurse now and will likely go just as far, unless they stop scheduling me earlier for fear I'll have to leave in the middle of the night with nobody to relieve me.

I quit when I was 5 wks lol. Im always really sick when im pregnant so as soon as we found out we were having a baby my husband told me to quit so I didnt have to worry about being sick at work he wanted me to be able to relax and enjoy the days I do feel good.

I'm due tomorrow and my last day of work was last Friday, I was 39 weeks 2 days, we were closed for the Holiday yesterday. I have an appointment tomorrow morning and I'll be induced tomorrow night or Thursday morning. So they was no point in me going back to work for one day (today)after the long weekend.

I think it depends what kind of job you have. With my first I was a receptionist in a dental office and I worked up until two weeks before he was due. I would have worked til the end but I got really swollen and my dr said I should be in bed rest those last two weeks. This time I have a small housecleaning business and its very physical and getting almost impossible to do some things (I'm 30 weeks). I can't bend down to dust things that are low or pick things up or move furniture to get behind it. So I'm actually only working two more weeks and then I'm done! I think you just have to listen to your body and when it's telling you you can't keep going then don't. And don't feel guilty. It's hard work carrying a child!

I worked up until the day I had my daughter at 9 days overdue. I had a desk job and I enjoy my work so I didn't have a reason not to be there and I wanted the longest maternity leave with my baby possible.

with my first my doctor gave me a note and I took off at 38 weeks up to six weeks post partum (thanksgiving and Christmas breaks helped prolong that as I am a teacher). with my second, I found out during school that I would be induced that night. I had switched school districts and didn't have the days or the money to do otherwise. only took nine school days off. it was horrible! I say do as much as you can afford, but everyday you take off before the baby is born is one day less that you get with your baby after it's here!
