manual vs electric

Ok i have decided to breast feed. My plan if all goes well at the hospital is to be strict boob for the first two months as i am a stay at home mommy. Then after start pumping so daddy and big sisters can feed. Since i will not be pumping often my ? Is manual or electric. I believe single pump will be  fine. This is a first time thing for me so all input is welcomed and appreciated.

I had an electric medela dual pump. With the sinlgr, I found that while pumping one side, I would leak from the other. I know some hospitals let you rent them as well. I just bought mine and I loved it. You pump more than you think! Especially when all that milk comes in. Breast feeding really is the best. The first two weeks are hard and kind of painful, but it will get better! Good luck!

I wouldn't even waste the money and time on a manual pump. Spend a little more and get an electric one. I tried a manual with my first child and my hand and arm was sore before I even had the milk flowing.

I would get a single electric, you can get a medela one for like 39.99,and it works the best.. if your milk comes in and is overfill you would have to pump the extra out so that would be annoying with a manual

The electric will definitely be faster and less work on those squeeze muscles, like shas said. I did the manual too and treated it like a workout, alternating hands. With a single just be ready for let down in your other boob too...they have a mind of their own. When I nurse those first few weeks until I could train the girls, I kept an extra bottle for the non-nursing boob and was able to collect some slowly that way too. Usually and ounce at a time, but it really adds up without any effort.

Even if you don't plan to pump often you may find out you're pumping more than you thought. I started out with a manual pump with my youngest. I found myself having to pump from the beginning. Plus I quickly realized that I was developing carpal tunnel. Lol. Contact the Wic office near you. See if you can qualify for a loaner pump. They let you use a really nice electric one (that you get to take home and keep as long as needed) for free. All replaceable parts are new when you take it home. Something to look at before you buy either
