I have to tell you that my sister had 4 done and nothing helped her.   I had my water break 12 days early so I didn't even have an internal exam yet when I was going into deliver my first.

I've had two pregnancies with sweeps first one I got swept three times no help and second one worked within a few hours. I never lost my mucous plugs....

No u lose your mucus plug naturally. Way before Dr even considers sweeping membranes. Dr usually doesn't do it until the last few weeks of the 9 month of pregnancy.

Would this be the same thing as the mucus plug being removed?

A membrane sweep is when Dr goes in n stocks his fingers in like checking if u are dialating and then dr takes his fingers and sweeps it around the opening of the cervix. This is supposed to break the membranes and naturally induce labor. Its very painful and it did not bring on labor for me either pregnancy. But I will do it again with this pregnancy Cuz you get to that point of let's trying anything to get baby out lol
