Thank u ladies.... I am going to put my nee name and go from there..
I believe a birth certificate's intentions is to be a traceable document, thus asking for the "maiden" name for the sake of history. .much like tracing someone in history through a census.
Oh, wait, I lied, it does ask for maiden on page 2. It says Mother's Name Prior to Her First Marriage. Lol.
I had problems with my insurance a whole year after I got married & changed my name. Eventually they paid everything, but I would get bills from lab corp etc... telling me the insurance info was wrong & I owed them money. It took months to sort it sll out. Now luckily (3 yrs later) we figured out that insurance has my maiden last name so some things got bounced back, but we don't want to change it with them until baby is born bc of how much of a hassle it was before to get things paid quickly.
So, based on my experience, I would wait.
mckayla's mom what state are you in? I am in Texas & I just filled out my birth certificate worksheet to give my midwife tomorrow. Mine asks for "Mother's Current Legal Name"... not even a spot for maiden name.
You can't change your name on the birth certificate. .. you have to put your maiden name... my daughter's birth certificate has my maiden name (since they require it) and at that time I had been married for 3 years and that wasn't my last name.
It shouldn't effect your coverage at all. I got pregnant right after my wedding and changed my name and I never had a lapse in coverage because it was still my same ssn. I believe it is easier to change name now rather than change birth certificate
You also have about roughly 2 weeks after the baby is born to feel out their birth certificate, in some states longer. That way hopefully it will give you enough time to figure things out.
I think change it before and call your insurance company to find out what documents to submit before the change is official
