Oh wow I never hear that.. It took me 4 days for my milk to come in and I nursed for 15 months. It was very difficult and painful at first but I had flat or inverted nipples and I think that's pretty rare so I wouldn't worry about the pain. Most peoples milk come in much sooner if not right away too. If your hospital is any thing like mine thier lactation consultants will suck and they will give you free similac. Don't fall for the trap! Haha. Beyond the bond, I found it so interesting that babies who are breastfed will not ever develop ms. There are so many really awesome facts like that, that make me think "phew, thank God I nursed". There is nothing more sustainable, earth friendly, and locally sourced ; ) doesn't get much cheaper either. Get all the info so you can immediately shut down anyone with negative comments about nursing. There's not even an argument, it is absolutely superior and the formula companies are constantly in trouble for unethical advertising. If you can't tell, I don't even know you yet am so happy you are going to breastfeed!! Congrats, you will do great!

Don't let anyone discourage you! You are making the best decision for your baby and yourself. I heard everything from my mom telling me my boobs were too small to produce enough for my daughter to my in laws asking me to go to a secluded area to nurse their granddaughter. My only regret is that I let their opinions effect me by feeling like I had defend my decision. Your happy healthy baby will be all the proof you need in showing you're right. My "small" boobs made my 5 lb 15 oz newborn a chunky little baby in no time.

I've missed nursing so much! I'm so excited to be able to have that bonding experience again with my baby. The only time it should hurt is if the baby isn't latched correctly. The only time I had sore nipples was when my daughter was teething and would clamp down while nursing. Some advice is to take any breastfeeding classes your office or hospital offers and educate yourself as much as possible. I didn't have any support from family or friends and I had to apply what I learned myself. And babies aren't born knowing how to nurse properly, they are learning just like you. So patience and persistence is a must. Waiting to give a pacifier until breastfeeding is well established is important as well. I'd being if I said breastfeeding is always easy. I remember the first 2 months being somewhat of a struggle. If I felt stressed at all my milk wouldn't let down for a few minutes and my daughter would get angry and we'd both end up crying. But, we pushed through and got the hang of it and I can say she is almost 4 years old and the only sickness she has had is a runny nose. Breastfeeding is good for baby and you and the bond you experience can't be matched by anything else. I wish you the best of luck!

Your body is meant to. It will do what it needs to when the time comes. I started leaking colostrum like crazy early on in my pregnancy. But after I gave birth my milk didn't come in for almost 5 days later. So leaking during pregnancy doesn't mean anything. When your body goes through labor and you deliver the placenta your body will s you art producing prolactin to begin the lactating process. All you need is the suckling stimuli of the baby. I exclusively breastfed my daughter for 16 months and I am hoping to do the same, maybe longer, with this baby I'm carrying.
