Hello. I am 8 weeks pregnant. My daughter, husband and I were exposed to chickenpox this past Monday...my daughter now has chickenpox. I'm concerned I might get shingles.. my mom told me I already had chickenpox so will I get shingles ? I have an appt on Tuesday so I will let my doctor know I just hope it's not too late to take something. ... also.. anyone know what might work relieve her itchiness? I've been doing aveeno oatmeal baths and tried aveeno ezcema mositruizer as well.. hope that does the trick.. any input, advice, I would appreciate thank you ❤❤

Shingles is a virus that is in your system after you have chickenpox. I actually have shingles now and I am 23 weeks pregnant. This is not the first time I have had them. I actually have had them since I was 13. But if you have already had chickenpox I would not worry about shingles. It is a virus some people get and some people dont. Talking to your doctor is always a good idea but I can tell you that you cannot get shingles from someone with chickenpox. It is actually the opposite. Someone with shingles can cause someone who has never had chicken pox to have them (chickenpox). Do not stress yourself about it. It has alot more to do with your immune system than what you are exposed to.

Having a child with chickenpox actually may benefit you later in life. Research shows that it is an immune booster (if you've already had chickenpox)and can prevent you from developing shingles.

Same here baby ness never had them but have the titre for it... and I believe a few months ago another woman was asking this question and she was fine.

As for itching try calamine lotion... apply it with a qtip or cotton swab and dab it on each little dot... it helps immensely with itching

Im a teacher so had to get my bloods checked as ive never had chicken pox and we had rhem in the school when I was pregnant. If you have had them you have the immunity so the baby will be ok. I had immunity and ive never had chikenpox or shingles but must have been exposed at some point. Hope all are feeling well soon.

As edensinterstate said... shingles is caused by stress and is a concern for older people- but can also be problematic for pregnant women... but you usually don't get it from being exposed to chicken pox... my pediatrician convinced me to get my daughter vaccinated for it

If you're not immune or never had the shot then I would call your doctor ASAP. Good luck!

You can't get shingles from being exposed to chicken pox. You can get shingles if you've already had chicken pox however. Shingles breakout can be brought on by stress and usually occurs on older people. You can check with your doctor as well but as long as you've been vaccinated for chicken pox in the past then you'll be fine.
