changing doctor at 34 weeks

So excuse my ignorance...I wasn't aware that u are required to go to whichever hospital your doctor is affiliated with for labor and delivery. I assumed I can go to any hospital. My doctor's hospital is an hour away from where I live but there are two hospitals 15 and 20 minutes away from me. Now I am searching like crazy trying to find a doctor affiliated with the ones nearest to me.

Can't I just go to the emergency room, if I believe I'm in labor? And skip the headache

Well with my first child my water broke and the ambulance took me to a nearby hospital and they contacted my obgyn and he had them transport me to the hospital where he delivered it was like 30 to 45 minutes away

It's not that sad that they send you away in early labor. Some people have prelabor that lasts for days. Nurses and space wouldn't be able to keep up. As a ftm, I'm sure when you go into labor you will be excited to just go to the hospital and have the whole process over with, but from experience I can tell you it really is better to labor at home as long as possible.

I am going gto be 30 min to an hour away from my hospital (depending on where I am at the time). Its not that bad. Labor usually takes about 15-20 hours, so you have plenty of time to travel. And as said above, there's no point in going early, because they just send you back home to wait until contractions are 3 to 5 minutes apart. But I'm sure you could pick a closer hospital if you want and preregister with them instead and maybe find a closer ob that's affiliated.

And if you show up at the er then they will take you no matter who your doctor is. But there is always the chance that they will send you home if you haven't progressed enough in your labor so always wait until your contractions are closer together. I believe 5 minutes apart is when you're suppose to head to the hospital, but it a been awhile since I looked it up so I could be mistaken on the timing.

I see a different doctor every time I go to my prenatal appointments, and it was the same with my first. I also had my first in a completely different city then where I had originally thought I would. It didn't and doesn't really matter to me who I saw/see bc they have all been excellent and they have all your information right there. I'm sure you'll be in good hands no matter where you go or who you see, but obviously go with what makes you most comfortable.

My doctor is not affiliated to the hospital that I want to deliver at but he said I can go to any hospital I want just to make sure I take my records with me and of course a strange doctor will deliver my baby.

If you go to the ER... they will check you. If the baby isnt coming right that moment they will tell you to go to your dr. Babies normally takehours to come

My doctor is an hour away. It's really but that bad. You aren't going to have the baby as soon as you go into labor. Is this your first?

I'm sure you could just go to the emergency room closest to you when you go into labor. Surely they couldn't tell you they wouldn't deliver it.

Yes, if you go into labor and feel like you are in labor, ect you can go to whatever hospital is closest to you.

Oh my believe it or not i had the same question a d i just called a hospital thats near me to find out!!! What that hospital told me is that i need to have my medical records with me so they know what type.of prenatal care i have had.... the hospital cant deny care to you so try to do the same call your nearest hospital and asked to be transfer to labor and delivery and ask them.

I would find out who the doctors are and which hospital fits your needs and then decide. An hour is a ways to go. Have you paid like a global co-pay or anything like that?
