I am so glad you asked this question... At 32 I am a FTM too and being petite my at only 23 weeks my lil girl feels bigger than my body can handle. I keep thinking of the Due date and freak out. I do have a question, we live in a different continent than our family and friends and my husband's office is at least 1 and a half hour drive from home. So if I go into labor while he is away I will have to get to the hospital by myself. I don't drive here. So what are my options? Is hiring a taxi a good idea cause I doubt ambulance ferry labor cases?

Dont stress it will only make you worse...I am on no.4 never did the classes because I didnt see the need for them.
I agree with mumofboys28...keep on your feet as much as you can....walk around yhe room if needs be..really helps with moving the baby down.
its natural to be freaked...I'm on the 4th and just gone over my date snd I am anticipating the going into labour part..very nervous still. When you are in labour your body definitely takes over and goes into robot mode..knows what to do.
just relax as much as you can and if u need to ask questions then do....if u feel u want pain relief ask for it...the last thing u want is to be stressed out.

best of luck x

Every girls body is different the contractions were the worst. Once I started pushing the pain wasn't as bad. Its the contractions that lead into the pushing that hurt me the worst. Once the baby comes out it's like the pain just goes away it's crazy. Once you are 10 cm and it's time to push it feels like you are pooping. It doesn't feel like it's coming out of your vagina in my opinion. The contractions feel like a huge stomach ache.

Personally I felt the classes were junk! I didn't want epi but labored long and gave in. Its not that scary, but it is work. Make sure you trust your care provider. Cover it in prayer and it will happen! You can do it mama!

I had my baby 2 days ago and its all true your body just knows what to do.i started having mild contractions around 6pm and just tried to ignore them they started to get intense around 11.30pm and i rang my midwife about 1am she reassured me i was doing everything right and to try hang in there a little bit longer at home.about 3.30am the pain was horrible and i wanted to push i rang her again and she told me it was time to go to the hospital (i only live about 3min away thats why we waited so long) once i got there my waters broke on the first push then within 1/2 hour he was in my arms i had absolutely no pain releif and only a tiny tear that didnt require stiches.the releif you feel when they are out is amazing its like all the pain never even happened....sorry so long but i hope that reassures you a bit i was feeling the same way before it all happened :)

This is my second pregnancy and I'm scared to death! My first daughter was 8 years ago so honestly it feels like I'm a first time mom all over again. My advice is to try and trust your body and to stay as calm about it as possible. I know easier said than done.

I think its normal to be scared and worried about giving birth..but as said above your body takes over and the need to push begins and you just push..i was 10cms n starting to push when i arrived at the hospital..n basically just got on with it..id had no classes either but probably would have managed with nobody there!if i can do it you can do :)

Try not to think about it now, believe me at the time your body takes over, it knows what to do, I didn't really find birthing classes helpfully, they don't really tell you the things you need to know, my biggest tip and I wish someone had told me before is stay up and active during labour, sitting and lying slows things down, you will do great, good luck!

Here in Australia our hospital offers free birthing classes. I opted out though with my first. I didn't want to scare myself with birth videos ect. I don't regret it for a second. I had no expectations going in once my waters broke I just knew I had to go in there & push my baby out & let my body do it's thing. Only a 4 hour Labour later & no major tearing or complications my daughter was in my arms. Looking at my 21 month old now I feel all teary just thinking about it. It's the most magical feeling holding them in your arms for the first time you won't even be thinking about all the pushing/contractions you just went through. My mum has me on video holding her saying "i know it's crazy after all the pain but I'd do it all again in a heartbeat to have this feeling again, she's so beautiful" haha totally worth every push I promise!
