Group B Strep

So I found out today that I tested positive for Group B Strep and will need antibiotics during delivery. I'm kind of bummed. I'm a ftm and I'm wondering if anyone else has had any issues with group b strep and if their babies were ok after the birth?

The hospital I'm delivering in doesn't have a NICU. So I hope that the baby is fine and they don't have to transfer him. I was reading about the complications and it really freaked me out. I felt fine about delivery before but now I'm nervous.  My doctor said that they usually give penicillin but I'm allergic so I hope whatever she gives me is effective.

I had it with baby 3 ended up being induced and had the antibiotics drip. My son was born completely fine.  I had a swab done for it at 30 weeks this time and it's clear so far but as it comes and goes i have to be rechecked at 36 weeks. As long as you go to hospital with plenty of time to get your antibiotics your baby will be fine :)

I had it with my son. They gave me antibiotics and said it was no big deal, that's its common. It's a bacteria that usually lives in your intestines but can end up in your vagina from anal sex, wiping, or various accidental ways. My son did go into the NICU the day after he was born for four days due to a fever though. I wasn't sure if that was why but now I see Marteaga17's baby went into the NICU too so maybe that did have something to do with it.

Yeah don't stress about it. Nothing to be bummed about. I am not a carrier of the bacteria but I still choose to have the antibiotics because my first born was diagnosed with it even though I tested negative for it. And he ended up on nicu for 10 days with the antibiotics.  So with my second  I also tested negative but still chose to have the antibiotics because I didn't want him to go through what his brother went through. And with this pregnancy I have tested negative again but I am being  cautious and still requesting the antibiotics.  There's nothing to it, like you said it goes in your iv. It's all good mama, cheer up.

My doctor said it's very common in this day and age. Don't worry so much. You and baby will be fine especially since you know about it. It's just a bacteria that hides out in your down there area, and is only harmful to baby if you don't get the antibiotics.

I had it. I was on antibiotics for my entire labor every 4 hours for 20hrs with my first! My baby was perfect! Don't worry too much because they have come long ways in treatment to prevent problems!
