Maybe try getting a second opinion in a couple weeks :)

Don't give up hope yet. There is still a chance you can get a heartbeat. 7 weeks is still early and dating can be off up to a couple weeks. Either way, I wish you the best.

Sorry for your loss :( That's not news any expecting mother ever wants to hear... And it can be a sad and confusing time to add to all of that. Here's some practical advice below...

If you don't want a D&C, your body has a good chance of miscarrying naturally within the next few weeks (that's what I did last year and I found it sad but healing). A D&C can carry small risks, especially for later on, so you can tell your doctor you want to wait. And there's always the tiny chance that your dates are wrong and they can't detect a heartbeat yet and you could go on to have a normal pregnancy, but that would be very, very rare so probably don't get your hopes up too high. A natural miscarriage usually means you'll start to bleed for a few days or more, then at some stage your cervix will dilate slightly (may feel like period pain - some people get quite sharp cramps, others don't get much pain) and you'll pass some clots and a sac (I had to give a few really good pushes to get mine out - the sac looked different to the blood clots but nothing like a human). You'll usually bleed for a few weeks after this then it stops and you get a normal period later.

However, some women find it too emotionally painful to wait or they don't want to go through a natural miscarriage as they think it may be traumatic and they prefer a D&C, or they have a medical condition that requires a D&C. If any of those are you, then maybe you'll want to book one in. They'll give you a drug/cream to make your cervix open up (can be quite painful, almost like labour for some people, but some others find it ok) then they'll scrape everything away in your womb. You'll bleed for a few weeks on average then get a normal period a while later.

Some doctors will also offer you a pill to speed up natural miscarriage which can be another option, but I've heard it can be quite painful.

None of your choices are nice, and all of them involve some pain and generally a few days where you'll be quite unwell/recovering , but you can at least choose what suits you the best and what will help you grieve most helpfully.
