Rhogam shot?

My blood type is o negative and the fathers is a positive. I've been told I will need the Rhogam shot but can't find alot on it other then blood types. Has anyone had to have it? What are the complications? Is it necessary? Will it hurt the baby?

I had it with my first and will have to have it with this one! Apart from the fact it's a needle..... I had no problems with it either.

If your baby has a different blood type than you and your bloods mix with out the Rhogam(which happens easily at birth) it can cause serious infections and illness for both you and your baby. This is my fifth and I have had to have it with each pregnancy. There are no side effects or dangers in getting it but there can be if you don't.

I found this: http://www.pregnancycorner.com/being-pregnant/health-nutrition/rhogam.html

I didn't have any side effects at all with the shot.

Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy! :)

I am O- Rh-   I have had to get that shot with both pregnancies. (Dad was +)
It doesn't hurt and it's normally given towards the end of the pregnancy.
Definitely make sure you get it...from what I've read your baby
could be anemic if you don't. Better to be safe than sorry.

I've never personally had it but my mom is - and dad +. So after me she needed the shots for my brother and sister. Carrying me mom built up antibodies to the + blood so there for her body would attack the + baby unless she had the shots so yes its very necessary. As far as complications im not sure as hurting the baby no it helps
