question??

So I packed baby's hospital bag and about to finish mine and hubby's. If I'm planning on breastfeeding do I need to take breast pump so dad can feed him too while there or the couple days we're in there I should be the only one feeding him? Idk it was just something I thought of.

If you want help learning to use your specific pump take it with you and they can help you learn how to use it.  If you're comfortable with its use you dont need to take it with you... its recommended to breast feed exclusively for 6 wks or as long as you can before introducing a bottle to avoid nipple confusion which makes breast feeding more difficult.  If for some reason you would need to pump at thr hospital most have a pump (with disposable parts) that patients can use.

My LC suggested waiting until 6 weeks before Introducing a bottle because pumping can trigger extra milk production & cause painful engorgement in the breasts. She also said that because babies have an easier time getting milk from a bottle, they may be more prone to refusing the breast if a routine isn't established first.

I was told to bring mine so the lactation consultants that are offered there can help me learn how to use it and all that. So for that reason alone i'll be bringing it. I dont know how much pumping i will be doing.

Talk to a lactation nurse. Unless things have changed in 6 years both are fine.
