quitting smoking

I am about 4 weeks along and just found out a few days ago. I am trying to quit smoking. This is my second pregnancy. It was easy to quit while pregnant with my daughter because even the smell of cigarette smoke made me deathly sick. The problem is with this pregnancy I have no nausea and it is much more difficult to quit. I only smoke a few a day like 4 at the most. I was smoking a whole pack a day before finding out I was expecting. I feel so guilty and ashamed every time I smoke one...but it is hard to quit when it doesn't make me physically ill. Any tips on how to quit? Other than the e cig, because oddly enough that turns my stomach.lol

Agreed at the thought of asthma. All of us kids had asthma and my little sister died of sids yet my parents sit and puff away in the house totally unaccountable for any of it. There is nothing like struggling for the most essential function and necessity. 4 weeks is not bad! Many people don't even find out that early. Quit slowly, like over a week, that's what I do Bc i was told the baby can go through nicotine withdraw. I have read that nicotine cravings can be a lack of vitamin b and that vitamin c helps as well. Good luck, you can do it!

Yes that is an issue my husband smokes. I think it may be easier for me to quit if he would quit with me. Ya know be my support system. I don't feel like it would be right of me to ask him to quit though I am the one pregnant not him.

stop buying cigarettes. don't keep any cigarettes in the house or anywhere around you. if others in your household smoke, tell them to hide it from you and take the cigarettes with them when they go out.

have none, smoke none. that worked for me!

I was a smoker when i found out i was prego.. although i still crave the taste, it was easier for me to quit only because my mom smoked when prego with me and i have really bad asthma, and was born with a heart problem. Not that i belong smoking anyway.. but i didnt want my baby to be born with problem. Because of me

Sad to say, I'm 35 wks pregnant and I still haven't been able to quit. I'm so stressed and that's not helping with the quitting :( cjmomof3 sounds like a really nice woman, but I disagree.. every ob I've seen isn't there to help, they always judge. I don't even understand the point of them bc all they ever do is make me pee in a cup then check my babies heartbeat and then bill me. Not sure what it is exactly I'm getting out of seeing her. Anyways, good luck! I really hope you can do it! Really wish I could :,(

I've never smoked, so I don't personally know the struggle of this addiction. I am a newly graduated nurse however, and during maternity class we were taught if a mother was really struggling with quitting smoking, to wean herself off slowly. I would talk to you r doctor about it. They are not there to judge you, only to help. Smoking can be harmful to your baby, but you understand that, or you wouldn't be making an effort to quit. If I were you, try smoking the least amount as possible and try to wean off completely. Good Luck! :)

I can understand how hard it is. But my advise is to not have any around to smoke. When u are out and able to buy some just dont. Think really hard about how its only 9 months for the health of baby and you can do anything u set ur mind to. Its just temporary.

Go watch misbehaving mom's. It's on YouTube. It explains what happens to a baby when a mother smoke just one cigarette. It will help you when you feel weak
