The doctors and other medical professionals say not to eat any animal products unless theyre cooked throughly, they obviously dont tell us that for nothing, if it was safe to eat raw steak then they wouldnt tell us not to eat them. Stay away from undercooked animal products i say better to b safe than sorry :-) once uve had baby then go have a big rare steak lol

Honestly I wouldn't worry about eating a raew steak.  As long as the outside hits the appropriate temp your fine.  If your still concerned go with mid rare.

Though I follow 99% of my Dr recommendations eating a well done steak is not one of them.  The feeding and inspection practices in the us has largely eliminated any issues with parasites.  As for the issue of things like bacteria an understanding of meat is helpful.  Things like steak are solid pieces of meat so only the outside could have been exposed to the bacteria this coming from when the knife its cut the meat.  Since the outside of your steak gets hot enough to kill the bacteria you don't have to worry about it. In things like hamburger it is a problem because it's all been mixed together and ground so the whole thing to be exposed that's why you should cook it to well done.  I wouldn't worry about eating a rare or med rare steak but I do agree it might indicate you need more iron since your craving it.

A craving for rare meat could indicate a bed to up your iron intake.

Please STEP AWAY from under cooked meat of any kind. We need everything to be well done! Too many parasites can be in undercooked meat. We are even supposed to heat lunch meat before we make a sandwich.
