Thank you everyone.. Some really nice insights.. Much helpful..
I used to work for an eye dr before I became pregant. And they have a program called Infant See its a free eye exam for babies under a year old. Most drs recommmend getting checked at six to nine months. They can detect all kinds of vision problems in infants. Also early checks can show up brain tumors. I highly reccomend looking into it. You can go to the infant see website and locate a dr in your area. You would be amazed at the diffrence it makes of you find a problem early enough.
My son was born blind in his left eye... we didn't find out until he was 6mo old. He has had 5 surgeries on his eye (he's 6 now). We are hoping my daughter doesnt have the same issues. But while they are in the womb, they can't tell just yet...
Well if the baby does have a disability, it doesn't take away from the quality of life. You may have to do some things different but people with disabilities are still successful and happy. Accepting what may come helps ease worries
My second son was born with cataracts in both eyes but we didn't know untill we went for his 6 moth check up then the pediatrician noticed it now hes gonna have surgery a week befor his first birthday n im terrified!
I have the same fears. How far along are you? I believe most hospitals give hearing tests within the first few days after bub is born but I'm not sure about sight. Maybe ask your doctor what to look for? Id expect that most newborns would struggle to focus early on but will eventually look for eye contact or follow moving objects within the first few weeks.
