Hiccups

I don't see a forum for "after birth" so I will just ask here. My baby girl gets the hiccups all the time. It's usually after she eats but she gets them randomly, too. We try to burp her during her feedings and after but she doesn't really burp much. Any suggestions to help her get them less? She's 6 days old if that info makes any difference.

I think its normal for them to get hiccups , my baby us a month old now & even before he was born he got them in my tummy daily . It's their way of getting ready for birth and then after its just them adjusting .

Babies swallow more air on the bottle- no matter the formula brand.  So to burp her more often when doing bottle.  Suddenly switching formula brand can lead to upset stomach.   Also when you burp her make sure her torso is long and arms up draped over your shoulders.  Hiccups are typically caused by traped air in the stomach irritating the diaphragm.

I'm actually doing both - breast and formula feeding. I'm trying to breast feed more but I'm having a tough time so I'm using formula to supplement. I will look into a different type of formula and see if that helps her.

Thank you ladies!

Sounds like she may be taking in to much air when she eats if you are bottle feeding her you may want to try a different bottle and if your breastfeeding try having her in more of a sitting position when you feed her. good luck

Great to know! The hiccups don't bother her yet but it's good to know that they might. I didn't know it could be gas.

Are you breast or formula feeding? If you are formula feeding try another type. If you are using bottles try a different nipple or bottle. If your breast feeding sometimes it can be the types of food your eating. Hope you find something that works.

Gas drops... they were a life saver for my son. He rarely burped. At first it didn't seem to bug him to much but after a couple weeks he was super fussy. You can give them a try
