Most state court houses have public defender offices with lawyers that will give you freebadvice over the phone. File a complaint with the state dept of labor. Apply for unemployment.

I would contact the head of HR. Sounds like it was just an excuse because they don't want to pay for maternity leave

Im studying to be a paralegal and you definitely have a case. Apply for unemployment and you'll get it because you aren't the one at fault. There are laws that protect pregnant woman against bs like this..

Its a scary situation. U might be able to get uneymployment but where I live u can only get if you can work it takes about two weeks to get approved and by then you won't be labled as able to work. I've been there and they refused me benifits bc I wasn't released by a dr to work. I would def get a lawyer if you have papers saying today started your leave.

Most lawyers don't provide advice for free. They usually charge a consultation fee, which can be pretty steep. Look for a reputable firm/associate that will only charge you once you win. Even then, retainer rates can be upwards of 33% of your winnings, should you win. Good luck!

Sounds fishy to me. Sounds like they made.an excuse to fire you because they can't fire you just because your pregnant and they have to hold your position until you return to work with drs approval. Did you get your time off approval paper work?

I hope you kept copies of all the leave paperwork. I keep copies of everything. My hr dept even gave me a thing showing that my leave was approved. I would call the labor board and a lawyer especially if you were using their insurance for having the baby.
