preg announcement at work

When would you announce to your employer that you are pregnant? I am in my fourth month and apparently I got knocked up only 3 weeks into working there. I work in a new dept which makes me appehensive to share the news but I have been with the company for abt 6 yrs. Thoughts, advice.....

It definitely depends on your job. I told my boss as soon as I found out. I usually have to carry heavy items. Climb ladders and stand for long periods of time. If I hadn't told them I'd have been putting myself and baby at risk. Like another poster said, in the UK you legally have to inform your employer by 20 week's at the latest.

I would wait until the first trimester is over. Thats what I did. I didnt want to start a whole bunch of special processes and conversations until I was out of that "danger zone" and heaven forbid anything went wrong I wouldnt be forced to talk about it repeatedly after.
That said my job wasn't an extreme labor sorta thing. If work conditons are potentially harmful get it out of the way asap

I'm worried about this too, legally in the UK you have to tell you employer at 20 weeks. I'm only 9 weeks but Im quite slim so I'm already showing. I'm going to tell them at 16 weeks so time for floppy shirts ;-)

I told my boss right away because of the type of work I do I needed to start training someone else right away. This is how I told my boss. I found this shirt at Ross and it said "coming soon" and it had a pregnant lady on it. It had a empty space on so I wrote "Aug 28, 2014". It took people at work awhile to figure it out. Then it turned into a big thing. It was cute and fun. :)

I would tell them a soon as possible. They can't fire you. Plus if there are certain things in your job description that you shouldn't be doing while pregnant they need to know.
