I went to my Dr's office around 12 weeks. But I went and paid out of pocket to see another physician out of network. I couldn't wait that long. Besides I was spotting a bit. Ended up switching both Dr's to the one I have now. I switched with her at almost 6 months.  My previous Dr just didn't give me a good vibe and I was not going to feel comfortable delivering with her.

My first apt was scheduled for 12w, but I asked to be on a cancelation list and got in at 10. Maybe try that?

A lot of times they don't set an appointment earlier is because sometimes you can't see the sack for the baby or hear a heart beat, especially if you are early on. They don't want you freaking out , so this is usually why doctors won't see most women until about 10-12 weeks. My doctor like I said above won't see any ladies until week 12 cause she schedules an ultrasound at the same time as the appointment. So by that time, you get to see the eggs sack with a little beating heart and hear it. Also you are past the threshold for typical miscarriages as well.

nessa2010, I'm in the exact same position.  my first appointment is on June 27 and I'll be 12 weeks then.

I've been told in a different post that they do that cuz before that time not much can b seen. I dont fully agree, cuz the heart beat shud b visible even now. and ppl also say that unfortunately not all pregnancies make it til 12weeks, so that point in time will signify that ur chances of miscarriage are significantly reduced.

I dunno how much of it is true, cuz it sounds pretty harsh of docs to do that. but even I wud love to see my pea pod sooner, cuz over a month's wait seems like an eternity!

8 to 12 weeks seems to be the norm, but you can call and see if they will see you earlier.  They might not have an opening before that though.

Yes, it's normal most Drs won't see you until 8w minimum, so 12w isn't that big a stretch. I personally wouldn't wait that long, so if you can see another Dr, I would. But I'm just saying it's not that uncommon. I had my first appt at 6w and basically told them I wanted it regardless of their policy lol. Good luck

No. I'm going to my first appointment and I'll be 8 weeks. But every Dr is different. If it bothers you call and ask why they wait so  long.
