stupid car

My boyfriend wants to buy a new car.. Which is fine since his car has been breaking down and he needs something reliable for work... And something else might have lower monthly payments than he's paying now. But he's looking at trucks and jeeps and other cars that are just not sensible for living in the city and transporting a baby. I'm thinking he might be looking for one last hurrah before he becomes a dad... ? I don't know... I can't tell him what to do but i told him my opinion. Why can't he just get something more sensible?

We have a 2014 jeep compass that gets about 28mpg highway 21mpg city. We drive it over 500 miles each way when going back home to visit family (which we do multiple times a year) and have absolutely no complaints about the gas cost. It is the trail rated version so it sits higher which adds to the already high safety rating. It comes in handy to have the space to fit everything and again... The safety aspect is huge! When out other car dies (which won't be long lol) we will be getting another jeep... Probably a Patriot or Grand Cherokee. I would highly recommend it :)

My answer would be for mom to get a 6 cylinder minivan and forget about dads Hummer. Lol. Men are not rationale and it's still our job to protect our babies. Don't focus on how silly dad can be. Focus on how you and baby will get around.

We have 3 vehicles. Mustang, Honda, and a H3 "hummer." The other 2 can seat our baby girl when she comes but we are definitely only driving her in the H3 because it is bigger and if we ever were to get hit with our daughter, not much damage would be done compared to the 2 other smaller vehicles. It's more of a comfort thing for us.

Cars and I agreed. I wanted a small car for all my running and a larger transport for family outings. He could drive for family outing and that could be his and since I am the one that works and does all the running I would have small car that is good on gas. He picked out this and tricked me into buying it saying it was what I wanted. When I complained after seeing it ha said I could get the larger van still. Well he picked out a stick and I can not drive it plus it is a gas hog more than a family van. It defeats the purpose of having two cars and he don't work or go anywhere by himself it is just a waste. Now I don't really know what to do.

I know how you feel and it is not fair that we are the only ones that think responsible. He should get a normal gas saving car that is car seat and kid friendly. Tell him how you feel and see how it works out. Good luck mama.

Yes, gas prices have definitely gone down, but he drives 50 - 150 miles per day in his car for work so that's going to add up in something with low gas mileage. And yes i have my own car but i don't want to be responsible for always having to transport our baby.

Gas hasn't been this cheap in forever,  weezy,  and its not expected to go up anytime soon because the market has shifted,  with the US participating again in drilling and fracking.

It does sound like he wants a "male" car - no guy wants to putter around in a kid van.  Do you have a car yourself?

Mine recently bought a truck and my issue is that I won't be able to get an infant seat in it without help because if the dimensions. I have my own car with 4 doors but it still irritates me because we use each others vehicles. He became defensive and gave me a smart and immature remark when I mentioned it.

Gas is expensive and we live in the city... I don't get why he insists on a truck or SUV. It's just a status symbol.

I am mad and I normally do research and insist on looking at a vehicle. But I am having contractions for a few days and they are becoming more regular the more I move so I have been staying in bed and could not go. He said everyone would fit and showed me a far away pic of something that looked like a three row. I am frustrated but it is nice to know I am not alone and the only one with a guy that is not being responsible and logical. Lol. Guys do s u c k sometimes.

Omg wyattsmom...I would be sooo freaking mad if my husband did that. However I am kind of a control freak so I would have wanted to at least look it up online. Bet you won't trust him with that type of thing again hehe. As for the original post...it's baby number one so you don't need a ton of room, but if you live in a city a teuck is dumb because of the gad mileage. Just give him the serious fave and tell him what your thoughts and opinions are.

Do you also have a car,  so this wouldn't be the only car available to your family?

On the other hand,  I agree with those who think a jeep or pick up is fine as a car for a couple and a baby.

I know how you feel my husband does the same type of stuff. He got a truck thing that seats four people. I told him I would buy him a vehicle that would seat 6-7 u know something with third row. He said he found one and brought me a paper to sign for buying it. He drove up in it and it only seats four. We have five kids with number six on the way and even though 6-7 seater would not seat everyone once baby come it would be more convenient than a four seater. I planned to get a small car when my taxes come back that I can use to take my three older children to school and run errands. The vehicle I bought for him would be family travel and I would like it to have seated everyone. I can't believe he did that what are me and the kids expected to do now?

I would let him know how you feel not like it will matter.

I agree with the poster. The best cars for babies in my opinion is a SUV or full size car with 4 doors. We have a pickup truck and an SUV. We will only be using the truck around town because the baby seat doesn't fit well in it. I would tell him how you feel and see if you can compromise.

You only have to worry about seating the one baby for now, i don't see why a truck wouldn't be sensible except for the gas mileage but other that that your baby will be safer in a truck than a regular car. I would push more for a truck that will seat all of you comfortably. What do you consider a more sensible car?

How is a truck or jeep not sensible for a baby? Full size or even extended cabs can seat 6 people, jeeps seat 4-5. Both have good safety ratings. What's the problem?
